house of burlesque london

House of Burlesque is the UK's top burlesque production house. Run by international showgirl Tempest Rose, HOB first shot to critical acclaim in 2010 with 'Circus Burlesque', when they sold out the prestigious Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh and won Edinburgh Spotlight's Pick of the Fringe Award. The show went on to perform twice at The Theatre Royal in Windsor after beginning life in 2009 at Islington's Kings Head Theatre.

Their next production 'House of Burlesque...Shipwrecked' toured UK theatres in 2012/13 in association with The Booking Office after a successful run at the legendary Madame Jojo's in Soho. House of Burlesque also runs 'Burlesque Idol, the UK's best burlesque newcomer competition in its 10th year which was launched at Madame Jojo's where Tempest Rose also ran highly successful residencies with House of Burlesque...Banged Up, and The Love Show, and due to overwhelming success at the venue, proudly launched a weekly Saturday show - The House of Burlesque Speakeasy which now runs at Sway in Covent Garden.  Burlesque Idol took place at the iconic Hippodrome Casino theatre in Leicester Square for 2 years, before moving to its current venue at The Century Club in Soho. The competition also toured the UK in 2016 and has sister shows in Australia and the USA run by Lola LaBelle.

House of Burlesque were residents for 8 years at the incredible London Wonderground now branded The Underbelly Festival - a 1920s paradiso spiegeltent, selling out the 605 capacity, and receiving high critical praise for bringing the representation of burlesque to a new level. In 2017 Tempest Rose launched House of Burlesque 2.0 in conjunction with Alex Rochford for The Producers UK - beginning as an hour long revue at Vault Festival, 2.0 went on to a highly acclaimed run at  The Underbelly Festival on London's Southbank, and ended the year with a packed season at Christmas in Leicester Square, and mini-season at The Piece Hall in Halifax. A contemporary  production featuring multi-screen projections, bringing burlesque back to its roots of satire and social commentary with a fresh and dynamic take on the modern world, House of Burlesque 2.0 has revolutionised and re-defined the genre of burlesque receiving sensational reviews and praise.

HOB have been featured in numerous press features, have run the LGBT stage at Erotica and organised performances for Google UK, Time Out Live, Gong Bar  at The Shangri La Hotel at The Shard, The Park Hotel in Kolkata, India and The Courtauld Gallery, amongst others. House of Burlesque also runs an Academy to teach burlesque both for fun and for those who wish to perform.

HOB Director Tempest Rose is an international star in her own right and has headlined all over Europe and has even performed for the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Beginning her career in professional acting, Tempest discovered the wonderful world of burlesque in 2007 when the revival was starting to take root in London's then underground art scene. Starting as a solo artist, her career quickly flourished and allowed her to add compering and producing to her repertoire; today she is one of the most sought-after performers and business women in the industry. She has made appearances on Channel 4, BBC 3, ITV 2, The BBC Radio 2 Arts Show and London Fashion Week to name but a few, as well as performing at corporate and private events including for The Royal Navy at HMS Raleigh, V&A and The Courtauld Gallery. Her vision and belief in Burlesque as an art form, unique understanding of what makes audiences adore Burlesque and what its place should be in the modern era have made House of Burlesque shows some of the best in the world. Tempest Rose is a strong feminist and speaks often on burlesque's positive contribution to body image and celebration of the female mind and body. Miss Tempest Rose is a firm believer in burlesque’s ability to inspire, up-lift, entertain and dazzle audiences worldwide and it's this belief that has made House of Burlesque's shows some of the best in the world.

The House of Burlesque concept was dreamed up by Lola Labelle who wanted a one stop shop for the very best in all things burlesque. At the beginning of 2010 she met Tempest Rose whilst they were both performing at some of London's most prestigious Cabaret Clubs and through their love of the art and many bottles of champagne a firm partnership was born. Within a year HOB became one of the biggest Burlesque production houses in the UK receiving acclaim for their innovative and entertaining shows and classes.

In 2011 HOB decided that the UK just wasn't enough and so looked to the hugely expanding market in Australia and New York as the perfect place to take their sell-out show Burlesque Idol. Miss Tempest Rose owns and directs House of Burlesque in the UK and Lola LaBelle runs Burlesque Idol in the US and Australia as well as working on her other production projects under the name of The Duchess Group. The two of them still share a vision and love of Burlesque together alongside copious amounts of champagne.

Miss Tempest Rose is now ably assisted in the day to day running of the company by an assortment of divas, legends, experts, and organisational wizards. None of whom are called Jeff.
