HISTORY:
Opened in 1900 as a circus variety theatre, the Hippodrome featured a 100,000 gallon tank in which polar bears and sea lions would swim back in the day. Harry Houdini performed there and the venue staged the country’s first ever performance of Swan Lake. In the 1950s the Hippodrome was transformed into the legendary Talk of the Town, and featured a host of major stars from throughout the world including Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr, The Jackson 5 and Tom Jones.
DRESS CODE:
The venue official dress code is Smart Casual - the venue and we politely request no sportswear, scruffy clothes or tacky fancy dress. Smart jeans and trainers are welcome. Saying that, we love our guests to get into the spirit and put on their Sunday best - cocktail attire, seamed stockings, red lipstick, suits, ties, spatz, heels, vintage, dandies, sparkles, victory rolls and pearls - all are very welcome.
